Classified within the Modern family, the asymmetrical Ranch house plan is generally built with a low-pitched gable roof, deep set eaves, and a large attached garage. Ranches are typically built with one story; however, split level designs are also common. The exterior of the house -- composed of natural wood, bricks, and large picture windows -- gives the home a traditional and no-nonsense feel. Ranch style homes have few decorative elements, save for the shutters or porch-roof supports.
